A (hopefully) complete list of nearly all necessary, nice or just pretty cool Tools and Utilities to make the work with Windows Embedded easier or more efficient. Feel free to recommend tools in the comment field.



Dependency Walker 2.2
Scans any 32-bit or 64-bit Windows module and builds a hierarchical tree diagram of all dependent modules.

Process Monitor is an advanced monitoring tool for Windows that shows real-time file system, Registry and process/thread activity.

Shows the changes between two files. Includes intra-line highlighting and full support for editing.

XML Notepad 2007
Some nice Freeware XML Editor for your WES7/8 Answer/Configuration-Files or for SLD/EMX editing. SLX files would also be possible, but the Editor can only barely handle large XML files.

Monitor power management status and to perform battery measurement for battery operated devices.

CBS Package Inspector
Inspect MSU/CAB files to receive detailed information what is inside the update.

After registration you can download FreeImageX to provide your customer a legal way to deploy WIM images.
